Christian Dior was born on 21st of January 1905 in Granville in France. He died on 24th of October 1957 in Montecatini Terme, Italy.

Christian Dior was son of a industrial magnate. After finishing his school he successfully completed an apprenticeship in the Foreign Service.

Dior first began as gallery owner, however not very successful. His small gallery went bankrupt in 1931. So he started with hat fashion and designed fashion drawings for Robert Piquet as he had an extremely big artistic and graphically ability. Piquet engaged Dior in 1938 to design fashion. Later he worked for the fashion team of Lucien Lelong and from 1947 on for Marcel Boussac, where he took over the lead for a new founded Haute Couture-Label.

In 1947 Dior introduced his own first collection which immediately was a big success. From American Journalists his Collection was celebrated as "New Look". Characteristics of the collection was a small waist, figure hugging tops and swinging skirts. Dior called his collection "Ligne Corolle" (Calyx-Line).

Dior was a pioneer when it comes to concessions for cosmetics, stockings and Accessoires.

After the death of Christian Dior in 1957 the young Yves Saint Laurent took over the as chief designer of the brand. However, in 1961 he got release of his position due to the fact his style was too vanguard.

The Company was taken over of LVMH later with chief designer Gianfranco Ferré. Since 1997 John Galliano is responsible for Dior's Style - and is truly more vanguard Yves Saint Laurent ever was.
