The world-wide famous italien Fashion Label Versace was founded 1978 by Gianni Versace, who was born on 2nd of December 1946 in Reggio Calabria, Italy.
After his death in 1997 his siblings Santo and Donatella Versace took over the Company.
In the 80s Versace celebrated his international breakthrough as Fashion-Designer. In most of his creations he used the face of "Medusa", which became his characteristic and later on became an element of his company logo.
The year 1985 became an outstanding milestone in his career, as he was first fashion designer to present parts of his collection in Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Besides his Main-Label Versace since 1989 the Under-Label Versus exists, significantly designed by his sister Donatella.
At the beginning of the 90s some more Under-Labels were created and Versace became one of the biggest licencing-partners in Fashion for Bags, Shoes, Jewellery, Dinnerware (Co-Work with the German Rosenthal AG), Furniture, Living-Accessoires and Perfume. The Haute-Couture-Line Atelier Versace was suspended.
Regrettably Gianni Versace was shot right in front of the entrance of his Miami Villa at Ocean Drive on July, 15th 1997.
The Murderer was the 27-year-old gay Callboy and Serial Killer Andrew Phillip Cunanan, who at that time was one of the most wanted Criminals of the FBI. The Homicide lead to world-wide Media Coverage, amongst others due to the homosexualty of Victim and Delinquent.
After the assassination of her brother, Donatella took over the leadership of Fashion-Label Versace. Only 3 Months after the Death of Gianni and for the surprise of most of the fashion-world she presented a Prêt-à-porter-Collection. The Fashion-World was enthusiastic. Her Brother Santo Versace today is President of Gianni Versace, S.p.A. with Headquarter in Milano. |
